League of Legends Developer Riot Games has announced that it has extended its partnership with Mercedes-Benz luxury car brand until 2025 at the very least. According to company reps, the 3 year extension of the deal is aimed at further growing the global esports culture including the global League of Legends community. However, details of future activations outside of the Championship Ring are yet to be revealed by the parties.
The upcoming LOL World Championship (Worlds 2022 for short), hosted by USA and Mexico in collaboration, will reportedly be a key element of the renewed partnership between Mercedes and Riot.
Mercedes has been LOL global partner since 2020, when the brand became a trophy show sponsor and official exclusive automotive partner to display the German carmaker’s luxury rides to a new generation.
Mercedes-Benz is synonymous with excellence, and over the past three years, their partnership has helped elevate and celebrate the most important moments in our sport. The passion and creativity that Mercedes-Benz brings to every collaboration is second to none and we are thrilled to expand our relationship and continue to join forces to create more meaningful moments for LoL Esports and our community. Shortly before the LOL World Championship (Worlds 2021), Mercedes-EQ and Riot Games provided an insight into the design and development process of the 2021 LOL World Championship Ring. The project was launched under the motto ‘Not another championship ring’. The jointly produced short-form documentary gives LOL fans an insight into the creative process starting with initial sketches to first prototypes and finally the completion of the rings. The specially-designed rings were presented to the winning LOL team after the Trophy Ceremony presented by Mercedes‑EQ. The idea was that the special rings awarded will be in recognition of each player’s achievement and will remain with the League of Legends pro as an eternal mark of their success. The documentary can be viewed on the LoL Esports YouTube channel.
One of the many planned events for the 2022 World Championship will be the Trophy Presentation hosted by Mercedes-EQ, sponsors of the ceremony, which will include the handover of the new Championship Rings to the winning LOL team. Mercedes and Riot are also planning other joint events within the championship framework, which will aim to increase the level of the esports experience for fans watching online and offline.
The LOL 2022 World Championship will take place from September 29 to November 5 in the USA and Mexico. The Play-In stage will take place from September 29 to October 4 at the Arena Esports Stadium in Mexico City, with group stages taking place from October 7-10 and October 13-16 at Hulu Theater, Madison Square Garden - one of New York City’s top venues for esports fixtures.
